Care know-how

Common questions

What should I know before hanging a plant?

Soil in a hanging pot can dry out faster, and a wet pot is heavy. Use a hook rated for the full weight and take the pot down to water it. Vines grow toward the window, so turn the pot now and then. Hanging a plant up high does not make it safe for pets, because leaves and stems drop and cats climb. Check the pet verdict on each card.

What are the most popular hanging plants for indoors?

Golden pothos, spider plant, heartleaf philodendron, English ivy and string of pearls are on this list. Golden pothos and spider plant are rated easy to care for.

Are hanging plants safe for cats and dogs?

Some are. Spider plant, wax plant and Christmas cactus have ASPCA non-toxic records, while golden pothos, English ivy and heartleaf philodendron are toxic to cats and dogs. A high hook is not a safeguard. A plant with no ASPCA record stays unknown and is never shown as safe.

How do I water a hanging plant?

Take the pot down, water it at the sink until water drains out, let it drip and hang it again. Check the soil with a finger first, because hanging pots can dry out faster than pots on a table.
