A note on the name: "Botanicaly" is spelled with one L — not "Botanically" (an adverb) or "Botanicaly" as a typo. It’s an intentional brand name, distinct from any other plant-related product or service using a similar name.
How we verify our plant data
Botanicaly separates catalog facts, deterministic care calculations, and AI suggestions so each can be checked and corrected on its own terms.
Species identity and names
The core catalog uses the scientific name as the stable species key. Common and localized names map back to that record, which prevents a translated trade name from silently becoming a different plant.
Pet-safety is sourced and locked
Cat and dog toxicity in the curated catalog is hand-checked against the ASPCA Toxic and Non-Toxic Plants list. That stored verdict takes priority over generated text, and the AI cannot change a toxic plant to safe. This is reference information, not veterinary advice.
Care schedules show their inputs
Watering starts from the catalog’s species baseline, then deterministic rules adjust it for measured light, pot material and size, season, and local weather. The app asks the user to check the soil before watering and records “still wet” feedback when the calculated interval is too short.
AI has explicit boundaries
AI interprets photos and can draft an off-catalog care profile. Before a generated profile is saved, Botanicaly requires its genus to match the identification and bounds numeric care values to supported ranges. For curated plants, generated advice never overrides the locked pet-safety verdict.
Corrections are welcome
If a species name, safety verdict, or care value looks wrong, email hello@botanicaly.com with the page URL and source. We review corrections against the catalog before changing the published record.

What makes it different
Watering that adapts to your home
The schedule factors in your light, pot, season, and local weather instead of a fixed calendar, so it is much harder to overwater, the most common way houseplants die.
Pet-safety that is verified, not guessed
Every plant in the curated catalog is hand-checked against ASPCA toxicity data, and the AI cannot override those verdicts. For on-demand profiles, known uniformly toxic genera can only be corrected toward toxic, never used to label a plant safe. It is sourced reference data, not a substitute for a vet.
A useful free tier
Three plant identifications per day, the AI-powered plant encyclopedia with profiles on demand, watering schedules, and the plant journal are free. Pro adds AI tools and Weather-smart care; current subscription terms are shown by the app store.
Quotable facts
Botanicaly checks pet-safety in its curated core against ASPCA toxicity data and uses conservative safeguards for profiles created on demand.
Botanicaly’s watering schedule combines the plant species with its pot, measured light, and local weather.
Botanicaly is available in 19 languages.
