Why indoor olive tree leaves get brown tips

Distinguish isolated brown tips or margins from whole-leaf browning and browning that is moving into shoots. Brown tissue is a visible sign, not a cause.

Check whether the potting mix is dry or persistently wet, whether drainage is blocked, how much direct light the plant receives, whether heat, draft or wind recently changed, and whether browning is paired with scale, spots or dieback.

Brown tips can follow drought or inconsistent moisture, roots stressed by prolonged wetness or poor drainage, intense sun or heat, drying wind and salt exposure.

Match the action to the observation: restore a measured dry-down and drainage cycle if the root ball is wet, water the dry container thoroughly when the top layer has dried, keep the plant bright while avoiding heat or drying drafts, and seek plant-health advice if browning advances into shoots or branches.

Recheck the newest leaves and whether browning is still moving into shoots after moisture, placement and drainage observations have been corrected. Progressive canopy or branch decline warrants local plant-health support.

Indoor olives are high-light container plants and outdoor olives face additional wind, drought and salt exposures. Keep those settings separate, and do not assume one cause for brown tips without checking.
