   When to water

   For an indoor soil-filled container, add water only when the potting mix feels dry. Outdoor bulbs should be kept evenly damp during growing and flowering rather than held to the same dry trigger.

   Keep bulbs evenly damp during active growth and flowering, then reduce or stop watering as the foliage naturally yellows and dies back.

   How to water thoroughly

   Water a potted bulb thoroughly, then let excess water drain. In a hyacinth glass, keep water below the bulb so only the roots reach it.

   Indoor containers need drainage and should not stay waterlogged. In a glass or pebble setup, water touching the bulb can cause rot.

   Signs of too much or too little water

   A bulb that stays excessively wet or sits directly in water is at risk of rot. Yellowing foliage at the end of the cycle is natural dieback and a signal to reduce water.
