   When to fertilize

   For container-grown hyacinths, feed from early spring until six weeks after flowering. Bulbs grown in water in glass vases need no feed.

   Feed potted bulbs during spring flowering and for six weeks afterward, then stop as foliage yellows and the bulb enters storage or rest. Bulbs grown in water need no fertilizer.

   Fertilizer type and dose

   Use a high-potassium liquid fertilizer, such as a tomato fertilizer, for bulbs grown in pots and follow the package directions. Use no fertilizer for a bulb grown in a water vase.

   Take the dose and frequency from the chosen product label. A bulb grown in water needs no fertilizer.

3. 03

   When not to fertilize

   A wilting display or yellowing foliage should prompt a check of the bulb’s container, water-vase setup, and seasonal stage rather than automatic extra feed. Stop watering as container foliage yellows.
