   Best soil mix

   Use a cactus or succulent-style medium, or improve regular potting mix with sharp sand or small gravel. A peat-free loam-based potting mix also works. Any of these is fine as long as it drains fast.

   Prioritize fast drainage and a pot that cannot hold stagnant water because this swollen-base plant is vulnerable to overwatering and root or stem rot. Sharp drainage does not mean removing all moisture.

   Match the mix to the pot and setting

   This recommendation is for Beaucarnea recurvata grown as a bright indoor container plant, where pot size, the swollen base, and slow drying matter more than a garden-bed soil recipe.

   When soil alone is not the problem

   Use a well-drained medium for Beaucarnea recurvata. There is no universal component ratio, pH target, or indoor repotting interval, so check dry-down, drainage, and root condition.
