When to water
Check more often in warm spring or summer weather because the large leaves lose water, then reduce gradually in autumn and keep the winter mix fairly dry between drinks. Daily watering is a warm-weather possibility, not a fixed home instruction.
How to water thoroughly
- Water the container thoroughly enough to wet the rootball, then let excess leave the drainage holes. Turn the pot when watering if needed to keep growth even. No universal volume is set.
- Use a well-drained peat-free, loam-based container medium and a pot with an open drainage path. Keep the root zone damp, not saturated, and do not leave the pot standing in water.
Signs of too much or too little water
Brown leaf edges, curling foliage, a saturated pot or loss of firmness should trigger a review of water, drainage, humidity, light and temperature. These signs do not prove underwatering or a disease.
