Allow the container soil or potting mix to dry completely between waterings. Then water deeply or well rather than following a fixed calendar interval.
Reduce watering substantially in winter. Water less often in that season and check the soil before each watering.

How to water thoroughly
Wet the root zone thoroughly, then let excess water drain away. Avoid frequent small sips that keep the potting mix damp.
Use a succulent-appropriate, very well-drained mix and a pot with several drainage holes. A clay pot works well but is not required.

Signs of too much or too little water
Soil that stays wet and repeated overwatering can lead to root rot. Do not let Aloe vera sit in persistently wet potting mix.
