Use a well-drained indoor potting medium. RHS gives a loam-based direction for ornamental figs and Clemson supports a standard houseplant mix with reliable drainage for the rubber plant. No peat, bark, perlite or sand ratio is established.

Use drainage holes and do not retain saucer water. Excess water and poor drainage are associated with root rot and yellowing in the exact profiles, but free drainage is not a direction to let the root ball become permanently dry.
