What's causing it
Overwatering
How to tell: Leaves yellow and then drop, and the soil stays wet — often alongside yellowing leaves.
The fix: Ease off watering, check drainage, and inspect for rot at the base if it feels soft.
A recent change or shock
How to tell: It started dropping leaves soon after you bought, moved, or repotted it, or when the seasons turned.
The fix: This is shock, and it's the most common cause. Pick a good spot, keep care steady, don't fertilise, and let it adjust over a couple of weeks — most settle on their own.
Underwatering
How to tell: Leaves crisp, curl, and drop, and the soil is bone dry alongside wrinkled flat leaves.
The fix: Water thoroughly and then keep it more consistent.
Cold draughts or temperature swings
How to tell: It's near a frequently-opened door, a cold window, or a heat source, and drops leaves in cold snaps.
The fix: Move it somewhere with stable, draught-free temperatures.
Too little light
How to tell: It quietly drops its lower and inner leaves over time while reaching toward the window — check it's actually getting its bright / direct light range.
The fix: Give it a brighter position within its light range.
