When to feed a corn plant

   When to fertilize

   Feed monthly during active growth, roughly from April through October. Adjust the dates to your room and plant.

   Reduce or stop routine fertilizer in winter as light and growth fall. Keep winter feeding sparse or stopped rather than carrying the active-season cadence into a darker room.

   Fertilizer type and dose

   Use a balanced liquid or general liquid houseplant fertilizer. No particular brand or special formula is needed.

   Follow the product label for the amount. Avoid excess fertilizer because it can damage roots and reduce plant health.

   When not to fertilize

   Brown tips, dying leaves or poor growth can sit alongside fluoride or hard water, light, whether the potting mix is dry or saturated, temperature, pests or fertilizer history. Check those conditions before adding feed. One symptom does not show that the plant needs more fertilizer.
