   Best soil mix

   Start with a ready-made indoor potting soil for a Dracaena fragrans pot. Mixes with peat, pine bark, vermiculite, or perlite also work, but you do not need to follow an exact recipe.

   Use a container with drainage holes and a medium that stays aerated after watering. Avoid poorly aerated or persistently wet media, and do not use a cachepot as the drainage system.

   Match the mix to the pot and setting

   This advice is for Dracaena fragrans in an indoor pot. Plants grown outdoors in tropical climates need different care from an ordinary houseplant.

   Soil pH

   A slightly acidic mix around pH 6.0 to 6.5 suits Dracaena. Do not adjust the pH of a home pot unless a test shows you need to.

   When soil alone is not the problem

   No single mix recipe or pH fix suits every cultivar. Choose a suitable labeled mix, and when leaf symptoms appear, check your water and any recent fertilizer or salt buildup.
