What to inspect

Check the upper 1–2 inches of indoor mix and water when dry. Keep the deeper mix evenly damp rather than saturated.

What changes it

Keep the mix damp during spring-to-fall growth, then reduce watering in winter. Aglaonema uses less water then but does not need a winter dormancy.

How to water thoroughly

  1. When the dry-down check is met, water with room-temperature water and let excess leave the drainage holes. Do not leave the pot sitting in saucer water.
  2. Use a container with drainage holes and a mix that stays damp without waterlogging. Poor drainage or overwatering can damage roots and lead to root rot.
