Philodendron Birkin yellow leaves: what to check

Treat yellow Philodendron ‘Birkin’ leaves as a sign to investigate. An isolated lower leaf may age normally, while widespread yellowing needs checks of the plant and root zone.

Check whether the potting mix is dry or saturated, whether excess water drains, whether the plant is in an oversized pot, how much filtered or indirect light it receives, and whether it recently experienced cold or a draft.

Yellow leaves can follow too much or too little water, saturated or poorly draining potting mix that harms roots, an overly shady position, over-potting, cold or a draft, and normal loss of an older lower leaf.

Inspect the roots and growing conditions, let the potting mix surface dry slightly between waterings, avoid standing water, and restore bright filtered or indirect light. Remove cold or draft exposure when observed.

Yellow leaves can also involve pests, nutrients or disease. A ‘Birkin’ label does not verify its parentage, and care for another Philodendron cultivar may not apply.
